Oral Surgery, Stayner Dentist

What is Oral Surgery?

With oral surgery, we diagnose and surgically treat injuries, defects and diseases of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, face, teeth and jaws.

We aim to pursue the least invasive treatment possible for any given oral health problem. However, in some cases less invasive treatment options are just not sufficient and oral surgery is needed.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and restore your smile. Together with a tooth replacement such as a bridge or crown, a dental implant functions similar to a natural tooth root. The finished product generally looks and feels much like your natural tooth.

Frenectomy

Your dentist can perform a frenectomy procedure to remove a frenum, a small piece of tissue connecting your tongue, cheeks or lips to your gum area. Babies, children and adults can have this procedure when the frenum is restricting function — a condition commonly referred to as tongue-tied, cheek-tied or lip-tied.

Bone Grafts

A bone graft may be recommended if your dentist believes your jaw bone is too thin or soft to support an implant. During a bone graft procedure, your dentist will add bone tissue to your jaw bone, strengthening it so it can support a dental implant. Once the bone has healed, a dental implant can be placed.

Tooth Extractions

While we prefer to save a patient's natural tooth, in some cases this will prove impossible. If a tooth is too badly damaged as a result of gum disease, injury or decay, your dentist may need to remove it.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

This is the first set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If your wisdom teeth are causing issues related to oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend having them removed to help preserve your oral health.
